About Me

A little bit about myself and my experience playing the piano

Previously a third line IT (Desktop Systems Specialist) engineer at Sytner BMW head office in Leicester, I handled big projects and looked after 6000 computers across Sytner dealerships throughout the U.K. I studied Physics, Chemistry, Maths, English and Chinese for my A levels, achieving an A in each subject. I have a masters qualification in Physics from Loughborough University. I grew up in Taiwan and studied at a girl's grammar school where half of the class's students play the piano. I learnt the piano since I was 4 through YAMAHA and reached YAMAHA grade 4 (equivalent to ABRSM grade 8 above) when I was 15. I have also obtained a Grade 8 Practical Piano exam certificate for a merit from Trinity College London.

I have 15 years of tutoring experience in a variety of areas. With my science background, I like organizing my teaching strategies and planning my lessons systematically so that my students can progress in the fastest way they can. Now being a mother of 2 young kids, I have decided to leave my busy career as an engineer and start teaching the piano from home as my main job. I am a registered, Grade 8 certified piano tutor.

My current youngest piano student is 4 and oldest is 65. I also have many music school/grammar school students/adult learners coming to me to learn the piano from Leicester. I try make my lessons fun and understandable for beginners. I use different materials and activities throughout my class to teach young students. I am very patient with students from all levels and all ages. I teach piano by solfa system (do re mi) alongside cde method. Knowing do re mi and singing while playing the piano is a powerful tool, it would help students learn how to play the piano more effectively as well as improving the student's ability of sight reading and aural tests for music exams.
